El Elyon is the name that designates God as the sovereign ruler of all the universe. It is God Most High who rules today, even this very minute, over the affairs of man. "For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation. And all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, but He does according to His will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of earth; and no one can ward off His hand or say to Him, 'What hast Thou done?'" (Daniel 4:34-35).
Most of you know that Nairobi was attacked by a group of terrorists this past Saturday. In difficult times like these, as Christians, we must run to His word and trust in His promises. What we know and believe to be true about our God will guide our responses when troubles come upon us. None of the events of Saturday's deadly attack were out of the reach of El Elyon, our God Most High.
We praise the Lord that he saw fit to protect us from this awful event that took place so close to home. The horror and terror that occurred in Nairobi speaks to the evil that is so prevalent in our world. Our prayer is that we would be a light in this darkness, thereby pointing others to Christ. May God be glorified in and through the events of this tragedy!
